Cranes light up the sky in support of the 2010 Olympic Bid

Thanks to ICBA and a number of members, more than 20 construction cranes in various locations across Vancouver now carry “2010 YES” lighted signs that helped urge 64% of Vancouver residents to vote yes in the February 22 plebiscite on the city’s Olympic bid. The signs will remain lit up for another couple of weeks to make a positive impression on the visiting International Olympic Committee.

Vancouver’s Olympic bid book projects construction of the games facilities and venues valued at $620 million, resulting in about 6,000 direct construction jobs. With expansion and renovation work on hotels, restaurants and other facilities in the tourism, hospitality and recreational sectors and an additional $2.5 billion slated for transportation upgrades, an estimated 25,000 additional construction jobs could be created.

Companies that participated in the crane lighting project include: Micron Formwork, Ledcor, Scott Construction, Dominion Fairmile, Intertech Construction, Darwin Construction, Metro Can Construction, Brenta Construction, Bosa Construction, Concert Properties and Mondiale Developments.
