Surrey's Peter Krause elected to top ICBA post

Burnaby, B.C. – The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association of British Columbia (ICBA) has elected Surrey-based electrical contractor Peter Krause to a one-year term as president.

Krause, who has extensive experience in the construction industry, is president of Paragon Electrical Installations Ltd, a commercial and light-industrial electrical contractor involved in both design/tender and design/build projects. He established the company, which currently employs over 30 people, in 1989.

“This is a very exciting time for BC’s construction industry, and it’s a privilege to lead ICBA during this important period,” Krause said. “My priorities over the next year will be to ensure that ICBA continues to be active in developing safety and training programs that will attract and retain skilled workers for our industry.”

Krause’s career mirrors many individuals in the construction sector who have established successful companies by starting as apprentices and working their way up through their chosen trade. He entered the electrical trade in Ontario in 1977, moving to B.C. and completing his apprenticeship in 1979. During the 1980s, he worked throughout B.C.'s Interior. After more than two years helping to build the Panorama Mountain Resort, in the Columbia Valley, Krause moved to the Lower Mainland in 1985. The following year, he was involved in "fast-tracking" several Expo 86 sites and spent two months in China teaching pre-fabricated housing construction techniques.

ICBA’s executive for 2004/2005 includes Jim Laurence of Vanbots Construction as Vice President, Bob Fairbank of Rempel Bros. Concrete as Secretary, Kurt Krampl of Airstream Heating and Air Conditioning as Treasurer and association past president John Knappett.

Returning to the board this year are Mike Braacx of Tritan Construction, Mike Mattson of Matcon Civil Constructors, Steve Lornie of Dominion Fairmile Construction, Doug Peters of All-West Glass, Bob Vincent of Brighter Mechanical, Darcy Kray of Durwest Construction Management and Ron Nalewajek of Ledcor Industries. New board members include Bill Reedman of Steelform Contracting, Paul Manning of Western Versatile Construction, Rick Parliament of Comren Contracting, and Roger Lockwood of GT Holdings.

Having served as past-president, Joe Lindgren of Lincor Enterprises has left the ICBA board after many years of industry leadership. Philip Hochstein will continue to serve as Executive Vice President.
