ICBA Applauds Investments in Transportation Infrastructure

Vancouver, B.C. –The Independent Contractors and Businesses Association (ICBA) applauded the provincial government today for its commitment to addressing B.C.’s long-term transportation infrastructure needs.

“Today’s capital project funding is a visionary program that will help meet the long-term transportation needs of the province, while benefiting the construction sector, “said Philip Hochstein, President of the ICBA. “This funding will also help to carry economic momentum for the construction industry beyond 2010.”

According to ICBA, the government’s announcement provides some certainty to the construction industry through 2020.

“The government’s long-term planning in capital spending allows construction firms to better plan their work and their employment levels,” said Hochstein. “Today’s announcement is very good news for the construction sector, as it means we will continue to thrive beyond the Olympics.”

The ICBA added that the government’s infrastructure plan is well timed to begin after the completion of the current overheated construction market, which helps the industry manage the skilled labour shortage, and more accurately predict costs.
