LabourWatch 2008 survey shows Canadians less interested in unions

Burnaby, BCICBA is a founding member of the Canadian LabourWatch Association that runs the website LabourWatch.com. The LabourWatch site provides the kind of balanced information about unionization that is very difficult to access for both employers and unions, particularly during a union certification drive.

This year LabourWatch reprised a 2003 poll of Canadians about their attitudes toward unions and unionization. The results of the 2008 survey generated significant media coverage in the National Post and other media outlets.

The survey results show that more and more Canadians believe that unions are losing their relevance. The vast majority (77%) of non-unionized working Canadians are not interested in being unionized. Over a quarter of all unionized workers also say that, given the choice, they would prefer not to be unionized.
