Incoming ICBA Chair Plans to Enhance Promotion of Open Shop Construction

Kurt Krampl has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors for the Independent Contractors and Businesses Association (ICBA) of BC for 2010-2011, and plans to build on ICBA’s success to promote open shop construction among governments, builders and developers.

Krampl is a partner in Airstream Heating and Air Conditioning Inc., a thriving heating and cooling company based in Vancouver. He has served as an ICBA board member since 2001.

“The open shop construction industry in BC has matured and grown to the point where every project, big or small, can be done by an independent contractor,’ says Krampl. “We will be ensuring that buyers of construction services understand what we can do so they can choose open shop for all their building needs.”

Krampl also plans to continue to grow ICBA and its service offerings for members. ICBA offers its 1,000-plus members a variety of human resource supports, including an extensive offering of benefit and insurance programs, apprentice sponsorship, courses and training options, and has recently launched the Construction Industry Human Resource Toolkit, with up-to-date human resources information, forms, checklists and tips.

Krampl began his career as an apprentice Tool and Die Maker with Ebco Industries Ltd. In 1977 and earned his certification in that trade. In 1985, he moved into the air conditioning business with Carrier Canada, then later with Aerco Industries, before co-founding Airstream Heating and Air Conditioning in 1990. He was a Director of the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), a Trustee of the Construction Industry’s Health and Welfare Trust, served on the BCIT Board of Governors from 2001 to 2007 and as First Vice Chair before his term expired and is also Chair of The Construction Industry Training Organization.
